Professional Development Division
Since 1972, The Children's Center at Caltech (CCC) has been offering high quality child care and education for children ages six month to six years. In 2000, our research lead us to adopt STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) curricula as a focus of our early childhood program. As leaders in STEM Early Childhood education, we launched ECSTEM in 2011, and host an annual conference bringing together educators, policy makers, researchers and other vested community stakeholders to address the needs of our youngest citizens.
Due to the overwhelming demand for tours of our facilities, and requests for professional growth workshops, we have formed a Professional Development Division (PDD) that arranges tours, on-site visits and workshops at the CCC.

Science in Early Childhood
Saturday, September 26th, 2026 (9-12pm)
Presenter: Melissa Samples, STEM Curriculum Coordinator
Science is all around us, and young children are natural scientists! Explore how everyday experiences can build scientific thinking through observation, investigation, and open-ended questions. We'll consider ways to meaningfully incorporate the three branches of natural science: physical science, life science, and earth science.
STEM with Toddlers

What does STEM look like for toddlers? Discover how our youngest learners engage with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math through play and exploration. Leave with ideas for making STEM meaningful and creating an intentional environment that supports STEM learning in toddlerhood.
Programming through Music and Movement with Infants

What is programming? How do you introduce this concept to young learners? Join us as we discuss a developmentally appropriate curriculum that focuses on introducing programming through music and movement to infants.
